Join us this fall at the Cultural Center as our “Morning with Megan” workshop series continues! Morning with Megan is a monthly creative series held on the second Saturday of each month, offering new projects and creative inspiration throughout the year. All workshops are taught by Megan-Shirley Ross, Artistic Director of the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. Workshops take place at the Cultural Center, in the upstairs studio (accessible only by stairs; call 218-385-3339 if accommodations are needed). Wet Felted Vessels

Participants will learn the basics of wet felting while creating a small felted vessel. Warm, earthy colors and autumn-inspired forms will provide the seasonal inspiration.

DIY Nichos

📅 Saturday, October 10, 2026 | 10 AM - 12 PM
📍 New York Mills Regional Cultural Center 

Participants will create a personal nicho, a small decorative shadow box or shrine traditionally used to honor a person, memory, place, or meaningful subject. Inspired by the rich visual traditions surrounding Día de Muertos, participants can incorporate photographs, symbols, colors, and objects that hold personal meaning. Participants will be invited to include their finished nicho in our community ofrenda for Día de Muertos. Participation in the ofrenda is optional, and families may also take their finished piece home.

Hanging Woodland Friend Ornaments

📅 Saturday, November 14, 2026 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
📍 New York Mills Regional Cultural Center

Participants will transform wool balls into charming woodland friend ornaments using felt and simple decorative materials. Each participant will create a small creature that can be hung as a seasonal ornament or decoration.

Winter Village Accordion Books

🖌️ Saturday, December 12, 2026 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
📍 New York Mills Regional Cultural Center

Participants will create a fold-out accordion book depicting an imaginative winter village. Each panel can feature a house, shop, snowy landscape, or other winter scene using drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media.
