Made in Mills: The Lund Legacy
+ Fish Decoys by the Beighley Family
July 7 - Aug 1, 2026
Free to see, open to all!
The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center invites visitors to explore Made in Mills: The Lund Legacy, a summer exhibit celebrating the craftsmanship, innovation, and outdoor traditions that helped shape both a community and an iconic Minnesota brand.
Join us for a special gallery reception on Wednesday, July 8, from 3-5 PM, to celebrate the rich history and creativity of New York Mills' iconic Lund Boats. Light refreshments will be served.
About the Exhibition
On display through August 1, the exhibit traces the history of Lund Boats from its beginnings in New York Mills to its lasting impact on recreational boating. Through vintage catalogs, original marketing artwork, historic watercraft, and educational displays, visitors can discover how a hometown manufacturer grew into one of the most recognized names in aluminum boats.
Featured throughout the exhibit are original Lund catalogs, framed hand-rendered advertising artwork, a vintage canoe, a vintage duck boat, and infographics highlighting the company's evolution through the decades. Together, these artifacts tell the story of the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit that made New York Mills an important part of Minnesota's manufacturing history.
A special feature of the exhibit is a stunning collection of hand-painted fish decoys created by six members of the Beighley family spanning multiple generations. Used in the tradition of darkhouse spearfishing, these beautifully carved decoys showcase both practical craftsmanship and artistic expression. Displayed together, they illustrate how knowledge, creativity, and family traditions are passed from one generation to the next.
