The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center’s 2026 Concert Series continues with Chuck Suchy live in concert on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Join us in the Cultural Center's intimate listening-room-style gallery space for an evening of original music from North Dakota’s Official State Troubadour.
Doors open at 7:00 PM, with the concert beginning at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door; members get a $2 discount. Students $5. Seating is first come, first served. Enjoy a cash bar and snacks while you take in an evening of original live music.
A true voice of the Great Plains, Chuck Suchy brings his songs, stories, and prairie perspective to New York Mills.
Chuck Suchy is a folk musician, songwriter, and working farmer from Mandan, North Dakota. Raised on his family’s farm, Chuck has spent his life drawing inspiration from the people, places, history, and everyday experiences of the Great Plains. His songs celebrate prairie life, family, farming, North Dakota, and the stories that connect generations to the land.
Over the course of his career, Chuck has released eight studio albums and performed at venues including the Kennedy Center and on A Prairie Home Companion. He was named North Dakota’s Centennial Troubadour in 1989 and became North Dakota’s first official State Troubadour in 2005.
His music is deeply rooted in place and storytelling. Among his best-known songs is “The Story of Hazel Miner,” a folk ballad about 15-year-old Hazel Miner, who died during a March 1920 blizzard while saving her younger brother and sister. Other songs draw on everything from family history to old Burma-Shave roadside signs and the Indian Motorcycle.
Whether singing about the people who shaped him, the landscape he calls home, or the stories woven into the history of the Dakotas, Chuck’s music offers a thoughtful and heartfelt window into life on the prairie.
