Join us for a special creative writing workshop led by acclaimed writer and fiddler Ken Waldman on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This 90-minute session is designed for writers of any experience level and ability—recommended for ages 13 and up.

FOUR WRITING PROMPTS: THE BEGINNING OF FOUR NEW STORIES OR POEMS

The more you write, the luckier you get—and every new piece offers the chance for unexpected inspiration. The challenge is simply getting started. In this workshop, you’ll begin four brand-new pieces and learn strategies to spark many more.

POST WORKSHOP - MINI PERFORMANCE

After the workshop, Ken will share a short performance featuring fiddle tunes along with a few stories and poems. A long-time touring artist, Ken will be in New York Mills throughout December.

Ken Waldman has drawn on 40 years as an Alaska resident to produce poems, stories, and fiddle tunes that combine into a performance uniquely his. 12 CDs mix Appalachian-style string-band music with original poetry. 24 books include 17 poetry collections, a memoir, 3 children's books, a creative writing manual, a short story collection, and a novel.

Since 1995 he's toured full-time, performing at leading festivals, concert series, arts centers, and clubs, including the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Dodge Poetry Festival, Woodford Folk Festival (Queensland, Australia), and right here in Minnesota where he's performed through A Center for The Arts in Fergus Falls, the Reif Center in Grand Rapids, Central Lakes College in Brainerd as well as at venues in Duluth, Minneapolis, and Rochester.
