Photographs by Lowell Wolff September 3-27, 2025 Reception Friday, September 12, 4-6PM

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is proud to present Connections – A Cultural Portrait, a compelling new photography exhibition by Lowell Wolff that offers an intimate lens into life in Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico.

This exhibit will run from September 3-27, 2025, with a Gallery Reception on Friday, September 12 from 4-6PM. The Gallery is always free to see and open to all, thanks to the generous support from our members and donors. The Gallery Reception is also free to attend and all are welcome!

In 2005, what began as a simple vacation became the start of a profound personal and cultural journey for Lowell and his wife, Lola. Drawn by the warmth of the people, the ocean, and the vibrant everyday life in the Colonia of Las Brisas, they eventually made it their part-time home, living there several months each year after retiring in 2011.

Over the years, Lowell developed strong ties to the local community through daily walks, Sunday mornings in the town center, and countless casual encounters that blossomed into meaningful relationships. His camera accompanied him throughout—documenting not only the vivid street scenes and local color, but also the evolving sense of connection to the people and culture around him.

This exhibition showcases a selection of those moments, categorized into three kinds of connections:

  • Transactional connections – snapshots of everyday exchanges in markets and shops.

  • Community activity – the rhythm and motion of daily life.

  • Authentic individual relationships – deeply personal portraits that transcend language and borders.

Together, these images form a cultural portrait—one that honors the human connections that define a place and make it feel like home.

All are welcome to visit the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center Gallery to experience the richness and humanity of Connections - a cultural portrait through Lowell’s lens.
