NEW YORK MILLS, MN, September 3, 2026—The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is excited to share a detailed update on our Capital Campaign as we move closer to an important milestone in our community’s history.
Construction Timeline and What's Ahead
If you’ve driven by or visited the Cultural Center recently, you will have noticed that construction is underway! We’re excited to see this important project taking shape. The new upper-level windows have all been installed, and the next phase of work will focus on renovating the storefront. This project is expected to wrap up in late September.
This construction represents a major step forward in improving stability, safety, and the long-term sustainability of the Cultural Center. We appreciate your patience and understanding as this important work moves forward.
During Construction
While Phase I construction remains underway, the front entrance will be closed to the public. Please use the back door entrance, which includes an accessible ramp for convenient and easy access. The good news is that the Gallery and Gift Store will remain open throughout construction, and our regular programs and events will continue as planned!

Capital Campaign Progress
The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is pleased to announce a $100,000 grant from the Blandin Foundation, bringing our Cultivating Community Capital Campaign to more than 75% committed toward its $2.3 million goal.
This significant milestone reflects strong momentum and growing community investment in the future of the Cultural Center. The Blandin Foundation grant supports the renovation and expansion of the Cultural Center through the Blandin Foundation’s Rural Placemaking Program, which invests in projects that strengthen rural communities across Minnesota.
Phase II of the Capital Campaign will create more accessible, welcoming, and flexible spaces for arts, learning, and community connection, while helping ensure the long-term future of the Cultural Center’s historic 1885 building.
With more than three-quarters of the campaign now committed, we’re getting closer to making this vision a reality. Thank you to the foundations, businesses, individuals, and community members who have invested in the future of the Cultural Center. Your support is helping cultivate a vibrant, creative, and connected community for generations to come.
All Upper-Level Windows Adopted
We’re also thrilled to announce that all 11 of the Cultural Center’s new upper-level windows have been adopted through our Adopt-A-Window Program!
Thank you to everyone who purchased a window and helped make this part of the project possible. Each adopted window represents a meaningful investment in the Cultural Center and a tangible way our community is helping preserve this historic building for the future.

Join Us in Celebrating!
There’s a lot to celebrate at the Cultural Center this fall, and we hope you’ll join us for two special gatherings as we mark this exciting chapter in our history!
On Saturday, September 26, from 10 AM–12 PM, join us for “Let the Light Shine In,” a special unveiling of our newly renovated front facade. Enjoy light refreshments, a coffee and mimosa bar, and the opportunity to see the transformation firsthand. Come help us celebrate this exciting milestone and the progress we’ve made together!
Then, on Thursday, November 5, from 4:30–6:30 PM, join us for Connect & Celebrate, a gathering of supporters, staff, board members, and volunteers. We’ll take a trip down memory lane and celebrate the people, stories, and moments that have shaped the Cultural Center over the years. Start thinking about stories you’d like to share and artifacts, photographs, or other treasures you might bring along. Together, we’ll celebrate where we’ve been, where we are today, and the exciting future ahead. Refreshments and cash bar available. And stick around to hear Mitch Paul Groethe in concert at 7:30 PM!

What to Expect During Construction
During construction, visitors may notice changes both outside and inside the building. A temporary wall is now installed in the front area to safely separate the construction zone from public spaces.
This temporary wall serves as an opportunity to showcase our Windows To the Future: Community Mural Project. This installation features artwork designed by community members and highlights the creativity, imagination, and voices of people across our region. You can also learn about energy efficiency and the considerations we made in selecting our new windows through custom-designed educational panels, including handouts to help you with your own renovation projects! Thanks to CERTs for the Seed Grant that supported this portion of the project.
We invite you to stop in during construction, explore the mural display, and take a moment to enjoy this evolving creative space. It is a chance to see how the Cultural Center continues to grow and adapt while staying rooted in community expression.
