Berry Basket Weaving Workshop Saturday, May 23, 2026 10 AM - 4 PM Space Limited—Register Today!
Join master basket maker Shannon Lucas Westrum for a unique, hands-on basket weaving experience on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10 AM -4 PM! In this engaging workshop, participants will learn essential techniques to create a beautiful and functional handmade basket from start to finish.
You’ll be guided step-by-step through weaving a sturdy round base, adding upright accent spokes, lashing with cord for structure and style, and cutting and riveting your own leather handle. The finished basket is both practical and versatile—perfect for collecting berries, mushrooms, or simply enjoying as a handcrafted piece. Final dimensions will measure approximately 7" across the base, 6 1/4" across the top, and 5" high (not including the leather handle).
This workshop is open to ages 14 and up and will include a 30-minute lunch break; however, lunch will not be provided.
Thanks to an Arts Education Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, participant cost has been reduced by more than 60%, and all materials are included at no additional cost. The instructor will provide all necessary tools, including shears, weights, towels, and wash tubs. Please note that hand dexterity is required for this workshop.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
