Ripping the Seams: Unique & Activist Fiber Art
In The Gallery September 17 – October 27, 2018

We are pleased to present a unique and diverse fiber art exhibit in our main floor gallery this fall. Artists include: Jacob Allers-Hatlie, Liza Gorman-Baer, Ian Hanesworth, Vatina McLaurin, Liv Tran, and Audra Troutvetter.

Also on display in partnership with Minnesota Quilters, Inc. will be an antique quilt by Lavina Fedderly (1856-1943) and its reproduction by the MN Quilt Project.

The exhibit will be up in the Cultural Center’s main floor Gallery from September 17 – October 27, 2018.

Reception for show of Ripping the Seams held on Saturday, September 22 from 5-7pm. Free to attend and open to all. Includes artist talk and light refreshments. Bill & Kate Isles concert follows at 7:30pm; concert is a ticketed event.

Knifty Knitt a Child’s Hat – Thursday, Sept 20 @noon-2pm, $10 – Learn with Sit-N-Stitcher, Shelley Johnson. Limit 4 spots!

Shelley has been creating knifty-knitted hats, slippers, and scarves on knifty-knitter looms for over a decade! You will utilize our looms and we’ll supply the yarn. In three hours you’ll complete a winter hat for a child. It’s a nice way to try out this fun technique before investing in your own set of looms. This is a beginner’s level course.

Backstrap Loom Weaving – Friday, Sept 21 @noon-3pm, $10 – With Master Weaver Bruce Engebretson. Limit 8 spots!

Quilt Documentation Day – Saturday, Sept 22 @9am-4pm 

The Cultural Center in New York Mills is partnering with the Minnesota Quilt Project to offer an opportunity for local quilt-makers to be included in a quilt documentation project. Participation is free, by appointment. Bill & Kate Isles Concert – Saturday, Sept 22 @7:30pm 

Acoustic singer/songwriter duo from Duluth return to New York Mills, back by popular demand! This show is open to all. Tickets $15 Door or $12 Advance (-$2 Discount for Cultural Center Members), $5 Students.
